SNG Ship Refurbishment: Holland America Prinsendam

SNG Ship Refurbishment:  Holland America Prinsendam

Originally acquired from Seabourn in 2002, Holland America’s Prinsendam was most recently refurbished in May 2016 dry dock.  The cruise line’s smallest vessel at only 669 feet in length sails itineraries longer in duration to unique destinations with smaller docked ports-of-call.  While the 835-passenger vessel last received a major upgrade in 2007, its most recent refurbishment encompassed cosmetic modifications, including to the Lido Market, Java Café as well as Explorer’s Lounge, Spa and Salon.  Furthermore, there have been renovations to all suites as well as the buffet and new 24-hour operated room service menu.

While the Lido Buffet was upgraded during the small vessel’s latest refurbishment, this month an added culinary experience with “America’s Test Kitchen” commences aboard the Prinsendam.  Holland America formed its partnership with the public television show last year; the cruise line’s entire fleet is expected to feature the program by year’s end.  America’s Test Kitchen offers 45-minute courses with a mix of video, live instruction, tastings and recipe samples.  In addition, 90-minute cooking shows and hands-on workshops instructing guests on unique, scientific foolproof techniques and user-friendly recipes will be offered.

Nicknamed the “Elegant Explorer,” Prinsendam is highlighted by a three-story atrium with a special cylinder-shaped Bolle glass sculpture lit-up with state-of-the-art fiber optics with etched-in climbing fish, turtles and dolphins.  The ship features additional works of art by contemporary abstract artist Nicholas Widerberg’s marble sculpture, Impressionist paintings by Neil Pinkett as well as a collection of Roman Amphorae dating back from 50 – 150 AD.

The vessel garnered by her moniker due to being able to travel to remote destinations, Prinsendam offers longer than normal itineraries visiting Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, South America and the Caribbean with durations from 12-Night to an 80-Night Cruise scheduled in 2019 vising Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, South America and the Caribbean.  Due to its intimate size, the vessel has the capability to sail to amazing destinations like Antarctica and Kiel Canal, which very few ships are able to transit.  Special Needs Group is pleased to service those guests in need of special needs equipment on Holland America’s Elegant Exlplorer, Prinsendam.
