Spotlight on Sydney, Australia

Before planning your next family vacation, consider Sydney, Australia.  Travel to the land down under and get an experience of a lifetime.   With its stunning beaches, fun wildlife, and laid-back culture, Sydney is sure to give you a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

While in Sydney, make sure to spend a couple of days at one of the area’s many beaches.  If you are looking for a peaceful day surrounded by water then spend a day at Palm Beach where it’s quiet and calm.  Bondi Beach, Sydney’s most famous beach, is a half-mile long crescent shaped beach full of activity.  Shops and cafes line the beach so if you get hungry it’s only a short walk.  It also hosted the 2000 Olympics.  If Bondi is too busy for you then head over to Balmoral or Bronte beaches.  Both beaches are great for families with children.  Bronte offers a great playground, train rides, picnics, and lots of surfers.  If you’re at Balmoral then you can kayak, sail or even enjoy a performance of one of Shakespeare’s works.

Sydney is home to many wonderful museums and art galleries.  With over 7000 pieces, Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art is definitely a must see.  The Powerhouse Museum has something for the whole family.  With over 25 educational and kids exhibits, everyone will find some thing they love.  For a historical time, stop at the Australian Museum where you will see exhibits geared toward the natural and the aboriginal history.  Sydney’s largest and most famous art gallery, the Art Gallery of New South Whales, see some pieces of art from a number of amazing local artists.

Spend an afternoon at one of Sydney’s beautiful parks and gardens.  Bicentennial Park has excellent bird watching and playgrounds.  You can also enjoy the beautiful mangrove boardwalk.  Enjoy the quiet beaches, beautiful views, and great walking paths of Sydney Harbor National Park.  A walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens is a must.  Traveling 70 acres of the Sydney Harbor, enjoy the Tropical Centre and the National Herbarium.  Check out the largest Chinese gardens outside of China at the Chinese Garden of Friendship.

A visit to Sydney wouldn’t be complete without seeing some of the city’s incredible landmarks. Sydney’s famous Opera House is a must see.  It has five different spaces including a concert hall and opera theatre so you won’t be disappointed.  Make sure to stop off at the Sydney Harbor Bridge to get a beautiful view of the harbor.  For those who are feeling extra adventurous you can even do a bridge climbing up the 1337 steps for a panoramic view.  Another spectacular view can be seen from the Sydney Tower Centre point.  It is Sydney’s tallest building and has two revolving restaurants.  For a special view of Sydney’s sites hop on the Manly ferry.  It’s a great way to get out on the water and see all the amazing city has to offer.

To see some of Australia’s wildlife head over to the Symbio Wildlife Park and the Taronga Zoo.  At the Symbio Wildlife Park you will get a chance to feed the kangaroos, pet a Koala, and experience some of Australia’s other native animals like the wombat and Tasmanian devil.  The Taronga Zoo is beautifully located on land that extends out into Sydney Harbor.  With over 4000 animals and shows throughout the day, it is truly a fun filled experience for everyone.
