Rhodes, Greece, is both largest of the Dodecanese islands of Greece and the name of that island’s principle city and governing seat.  The island was also the historic home of the capital of Greece.

Rhodes’ Old Town is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list and has history ranging back 2,400 years.  Such history includes participation in the Trojan War, invasion by Persia, an alliance with Egypt,  participation in the Second Macedonian War, providing maritime services to Roman rule, long-term Byzantine influences, and long-term occupation by the Knights Hospitaller (the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem).   In today’s world, the site provides excellent opportunities to explore a vast array of architectural styles as well as quaint shops and restaurants.

Old Town is also home to many museums and art galleries.  You can visit the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, the Jewish Museum, the Palace of the Grand Master, and the Bee Museum among others.

You can also find the Acropolis of Rhodes in Old Town with ruins of ancient buildings and an amphitheater for musical performances.
