Holland America Introduces America’s Test Kitchen


Holland America has recently partnered with the longest standing and most popular how-to-cook television show – America’s Test Kitchen.  The Culinary Arts Center aboard Holland America ships will be transformed into a replication of the cuisine inspired show’s set.  Holland America’s newest culinary addition, specifically designed for the cruise line’s guests, will be hosted by Holland America chefs trained by America’s Test Kitchen experts.

The added experience for guests will feature eight 45-minute cooking shows and four 90-minute interactive workshops.  Workshops will teach guests new culinary skills as well as advanced techniques in preparing dishes.  Whereas, the shows will provide a combination of video and live presentation, taste tasting and samples of recipes.  Furthermore,America’s Test Kitchen television program will run inside guests’ staterooms on a 24-hour channel exclusive to the Brookline, Massachusetts based show out of a 2,500 square foot fully-equipped kitchen.


According to Holland America’s President, Orlando Ashford, “America’s Test Kitchen will bring a new take on cooking classes at sea that spans not only recipes but also the science of the cooking process.  Its mission is to determine the best methods, ingredients and cooking tools – and now these discoveries will be shared with our guests.”  The television program has garnered world-wide respect for its teachings involving techniques, supermarket-available ingredients, temperature, time and equipment usage which produce repeatable dishes.  America’s Test Kitchen’s CEO, David Nussbaum, echoed Ashford’s sentiments in stating, “The classes onboard Holland America Line ships will feature our famous foolproof recipes designed to be repeated and enjoyed long after the voyage has ended.”

Holland America will debut America’s Test Kitchen onboard the Westerdam on the October 18th sailing for its Mexico cruising season.  The cruise line’s new addition will be followed by Caribbean sailings on the Nieuw Amsterdam beginning on November 13th.  Holland America expects the new culinary experience directed towards cuisine-interested home cooking guests to be offered on its entire fleet by the June 2017.
