Diadema was christened on November 7, 2014 in Genoa, Italy; the 3,724-passenger vessel is the largest and most creative of the Costa fleet. “Regina del Mediterraneo,” Queen of the Mediterranean, is adorned with glass, art and neon lights providing a South Beach, Art Deco feel influenced by Miami Beach-based designer, Joe Farcus. Diadema is Costa’s sole member of the Dream Class. The Italian-themed ship has over 7,000 works of art from a combination of forty-one architects, graphic designers, painters and sculptors.
Along with the featured art aboard ship, Diadema has focused attention in providing entertainment areas for both children and adults. State-of-the-art simulators, video games and 4D cinema as well as the popular laser maze provide amusement for children, while adults may be entertained by the new shows in the Emerald Theater. The theater spans three decks which showcase two shows nightly highlighting Italy’s best with musical and dance performances which are mostly visual in nature.
Diadema offers an array of nighttime activities. Country Rock Club is a new ‘50’s bar on Costa ships with live music nightly. Further nightlife on the vessel includes the Pietra di Luna Disco, Golden Jubilee Casino as well as poolside and specifically-themed parties. From cocktail hour to the wee hours of the morning, passengers enjoy the European flavor of entertainment at the various venues and bars onboard featuring rare Italian wines and beers.
The Italian influence carries over to the cuisine and desserts on Diadema with pizza, pasta and gelato. The Promenade, reminiscent to a seaside terrazzo, located on Deck 5 is an over 1,600 foot long, sixteen inch wide open-air terrace which surrounds the ship front to back offering spectacular views. The terrace enables the guest to walk completely around the ship and allows one to stop and relax in one of the six outdoor cabanas or one of the two whirlpools; the Promenade allows access to the vessel’s restaurants and bars.
The Diameda sails the Mediterranean regularly out of Barcelona to other ports in Spain, France and Italy. Two new vessels will be added to the Costa fleet with one in 2019 and the other a year later. The 6,600-passenger ships will feature new designs and a more creative use of space to serve Costa’s mission of enhancing the guest’s experience by providing the uniqueness Italy has to offer in regard to style, hospitality, cuisine and entertainment.
