Carnival Cruise Line Accessibility: Fun for All, All for Fun

Special Needs at Sea proudly partners with Carnival Cruise Line to provide mobility services and accessible equipment for thousands of travelers every year.

Carnival’s “Fun Ships” are designed to deliver memorable, energetic, and affordable vacations — and their dedication to inclusivity ensures that guests with disabilities can enjoy the journey just as much as anyone else. Whether you’re sailing for the first time or returning for more, Carnival’s accessibility features make cruising easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

Accessible Staterooms on Carnival Ships

Carnival offers three stateroom types for travelers with different levels of mobility:

  • Fully Accessible: Designed for guests with no or limited mobility who use a wheelchair or scooter at all times.
  • Modified: For guests who use mobility aids for distance but can navigate shorter spaces independently.
  • Standard: No accessibility enhancements.

Features of accessible cabins include:

  • Lowered shelves, closet rods, safes, and desks
  • Grab bars, accessible lavatories, and fold-down shower seats
  • Widened entry and bathroom doorways (32”) in fully accessible cabins
  • Turnaround space of 60” x 60” in accessible cabins
  • Modified cabins: doorways from 22” to 29”; some may include small bathroom lips (e.g., 3.5\”–8\” on Carnival Ecstasy/Fantasy)

Shipwide Accessibility Features

  • Automatic doors and gradual inclines between public areas
  • Accessible dining tables and gaming tables
  • Accessible seating in show lounges and theaters
  • Wheelchair-accessible vehicles for cruise transfers

Support for Deaf or Hard of Hearing Guests

Carnival provides the following upon request:

  • Visual and tactile alert kits (door knock, smoke alarm, bed shaker)

Support for Blind or Low-Vision Guests

  • Braille signage available on select ships
  • Large print or Braille versions of key materials (e.g., cruise ticket contracts, directories, Capers® daily newsletter) — available with advance notice

Inclusive Youth Programs

Carnival welcomes children with special needs in all its youth programs, including:

Children can shift to a younger age group if needed for comfort and success. Parents may also be issued a phone or beeper while their child is in the program (where applicable).
