The City of Wilton Manors is many things to many people, but above all else it’s about freedom. The freedom to be oneself, the freedom to enjoy nature, and the freedom to enjoy and make art.
The city is home to the second largest proportion of gay couples relative to the entire population in the United States. As of the 2018 elections, the City of Wilton Manors became the first city in Florida and the only the second city in the country to have an all LGBTQ governing body.
The highlight of downtown Wilton Manors is Wilton Drive. Here you will fun shops, unusual restaurants, and other cool places to hang out.
Take a look in To the Moon Marketplace where you will find all kinds of candies from your childhood as well as tons of funny and tongue-in-cheek gifts.
Wilton Drive is also home to many restaurants, some more unusual than others. For example, New York Grilled Cheese has all manners and combinations of, you guessed it – grilled cheese sandwiches!
At the south end of Wilton Drive is the Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve. Here you can rent a kayak for floating down the New River or take a nature walk on the park’s boardwalk trail. You never know what kind of wildlife you might see! The park offers a Manor House, a Carriage House and a Courtyard to host events here year-round, both public and private.
Art is alive and well in the City of Wilton Manors. Art Walks are a common event and galleries along with other venues are frequent. One of the favorite venues is called The Yard which is home to quirky shops, a coffee house, a wine bar, farmer’s markets and other events.
One of the ways art is expressed in the city is through murals. Many can be spotted around town and they vary in style and subject matter.
The City of Wilton Manors is very community minded and proves it by coming out in force for events. The city holds many festivals and one of the largest is the annual Stonewall parade. It also has a very large Halloween celebration and many Christmas festivities. In addition, Wilton Manors is home to the World Aids Museum which was started through grassroots efforts to provide education and understanding of this disease.
