A suburb of Dublin, the town of Dun Laoghaire serves as a secondary tender port for major cruise ships. It can also be reached by air through the Dublin Airport. The town has some notable sites of its own worth exploring, in addition to what you find in Dublin proper.
The town comes together every Sunday for a vast farmers’ market in Peoples Park. The park also hosts other events such as concerts in its bandstand and festivals. There are lovely fountains with park benches to sit and enjoy a good book or just do some people watching. You can also sip some tea in a tea house!

Take a leisurely stroll along the West Pier of the harbor to admire the sailing yachts and ships in the harbor. Along the way you will see places to stop and get an ice cream or tea but hold out if you can until you get to the end of the pier. There you will find the infamous Teddy’s Ice Cream Shop. Getting your treat here will make the stroll back that much more enjoyable!
The National Maritime Museum of Ireland is found in a restored sailor’s church, which makes for an interesting setting. Featured on the former altar is the 10-ton Baily Optic made famous in James Joyce’s Ulysses. In addition to the exhibits, the museum is popular for weddings, too.
